Evidence of being able to use the music

Above the composer has allowed me to use his music that he has made and has given me more detail about how I can use the music, also he has given me permission of using it in my Media coursework.

Masked Man - FINAL VERSION

Above is my finished opening film where i have edited it to look a lot like an opening film, I feel as though it now looks a lot better than my preliminary as I have tried my hardest to get it looking really professional.

My audience in more detail

Above is a mood board of the type of things a teenager likes and would wear, also I included what male adults may wear as I have a character in my opening who is an adult and my film is mostly aimed at 12-20 year olds.

What films would my target audience like?
  • The dark knight rises
  • James Bond movies
  • Black Swan
  • Fast and Furious
  • Hunger games
  • Divergent
All of the above are some of the really popular films that many people like and that some of my target audience may of heard of. It is important to have a wide range of tension building up to then something that you didn't expect to happen, as I want to make sure I do this in my opening to make it more interesting and exciting.

What type of music would my audience like?
  • Rock
  • Metal
  • Pop
  • Country
  • R&B
  • Hip Hop
  • Rap
Many teenagers listen to loads of different music, even though most like to listen to pop as that is well known on the radio and on the official top 40 charts.

What do they like to do?
  • Go on social media
  • use their phones for texting etc.
  • Watch TV
  • Play games on the Wii, XBOX or Playstation
  • Listen to music
  • Be on top with the latest trend
  • Sleeping
  • Food
Some of the things that are listed are what people may enjoy doing who are teenagers and are often stereotypically referred to as what a teenage person should be like.

changed film title

Finished film title, this will be going at the end of my film as I feel this is a good idea to show that it is an opening. Also on my final film it will have sound effects, as the writing comes in together and then moves away.

Second Production Company Logo

Above is my second production company logo that I have decided to use, reason being is because I have looked at other films and they often have more than one production company that is collaborated with the film. So as well as using Sparkle productions, I decided to make a second one to fit with the research that I have found out.

Peer Assessment #2

From my peer assessing my work, I have found out that I need to try and make sure that the image corrections are the same throughout with the brightness, make a film title that looks professional and stands out and finally when doing filming next time I need to make sure that I get the full body and head on the screen otherwise it doesn't look right. I am going to keep theses targets in mind and tweak a few bits of my video to make it even better.

Audience theories

This is a Presentation that was made on Prezi about different audience theories. I think that learning more about audiences will help me to connect with them, and to bring them the type of stuff that they would enjoy and love to see on the TV. Doing this has helped me see what my film opening should be able to show in a form of media that people may want to use for entertainment, a distraction and to gain a personal identity to the characters that are in a film. But to also be careful about what views the film may portray, as I wouldn't want my video to make a bad effect on my audiences life's.

Video Production self assessment

Above is a picture taken of my work so far with targets on what I need to do to improve. The things that I need to do is work on titling to make my film look more like an opening film, by doing this I am going to look on the exam board website to look at some of the things other people have done to give me an idea on how I could present the titling on mine.

Secondly, I need to make sure that the continuity of sound is fluent and flows perfectly with each scene, this is important because otherwise it would confuse the audience with what is going on. Additionally, I need to change the colour of the video I filmed so it fits with the overall film.

Fortunately, the praise I got for my work was that the shooting material is appropriate to the task set including controlled use of the camera, attention to framing, variety of shot distance and close attention to mise-en-scene.

Re-done production company logo

I have re-done my Sparkle Production logo to make it look a bit more professional and different to everyone else's. The thing that happens on my Production logo is stars start to move across the screen to then show the production company name. I did this by using Imovie and then I exported it and added the short film to final cut over the top of my Production Company title.

Draft of Masked Man video

I have been given feedback from my teachers about my video so far. All of the filming that I have taken is great I just need to make some tweaks on my sound so it all fits together and it doesn't look like one bit of a scene is not suppose to be there. I think if I carry on making sure that the sound flows correctly my opening film will be really good. Also I need to add titles at the beginning, showing who is involved in my film, this is important to then make it look like an actual opening to a film.

Auditing mark scheme with my Blog

From the mark scheme I have done planning and research in a lot of detail, organisation of actors, locations, costumes or props, worked on drafting, scripting and storyboarding. Also I have made sure that I have took a lot of care in my presentation of work in research and planning to help me with my filming, so I know what I need to do when it comes to actually editing it. Also I made sure that my time management is kept up to date like a diary, including all the things I have done to help make my work look professional and so I understand the Media industry a lot more as well. However I need to make sure that I add a bit more detail about the target audience I have used and then my work will be a higher level 4.

Feedback #2 on my Blog

On this Peer table I have got feedback on my Blog, the things highlighted in green and the writing in green are what I might need to improve on. From having this feedback from my teacher I am going to make sure that I proof read all written response on my blog, integrate media language concepts and theories, compare my work to other exam board examples, audit mark scheme and cross reference with your blog, gain and evidence more audience feedback and elaborate target audience planning. I am going to make sure that I take my teachers feedback on board to make my research and planning the best it can be.

Final edited script

Above I have made some changes to my opening two minute film, the reason for this is that because I filmed it in the snow I couldn't exactly re-film it again. So I tried to think of something to make it look like the people who are talking are actually in a wintery environment, I did this by changing the colour of the video image, using close ups of them and making them wear the same clothing for continuity. Also at the beginning I had to change where the young teenagers were talking because the filming that I did wasn't focused enough on their faces, but it still looks realistic when it all comes together.

Feedback for my Film Opening

Above is the feedback for my editing on Final Cut Express, I have found out that I need to make the brightness of each scene look the same, add titles to make it look like an opening scene and change how loud each scene is so they all stay the same.

Changes made to my film

Below I have organised what is going to happen in my film, I have written down each scene and circled the bits that I need to re-do or change. This helps because it makes it a lot more easier for me to understand what bits need to be re-filmed and I have took advise on board from my teachers to make my film look a lot more professional and to also make it look like nothing has changed or been edited when a audience watches it. Also when I start doing the re-filming I know what each character has to say and do, so I can make sure that continuity of my film flows in the correct order.

Footage I want and don't want

Above I have organised the footage that I am going to use for editing my final film, this is important so then I can make sure that I have all the footage to use on Final Cut Express and so I can actually decide what might need re-filming. Also I can look through all the footage I have done and check with my storyboard to see what might need changing.

 The key for above image:
- Red is don't want
- Green is keep for editing and use

Evidence of camera being set up for filming

Below is evidence of me doing my filming on the 17th January 2016. I made sure that the camera was on the tripod in the correct way so it won't fall off, that was for if I had to move it about to different places that I was going to film. Also I did some practice runs, this was where I made sure that I focused the camera on different objects that I wanted the audience to be looking at in my short film. Also I figured out how to use the camera for filming, by moving the tripod handle to show an establishing shot of where the action will be taking place. This time for my filming I think it is going to go a lot better than my preliminary video, even though I may have to go out and film some scenes again. Fortunately this certainly won't be any hassle because I am determined to do well in this area of my coursework and the actresses who are involved don't mind re-filming bits again.

Consent form for filming

Above is my own Consent Form for my coursework, I made it look as professional as possible but added something extra on because I am getting marked by an examiner, I wanted to see whether the people who are taking part are alright with this and to make sure that I have their permission before filming them.

Final Storyboard

Above is my final storyboard for my filming, this time I made sure that I met all the feedback from my last storyboard. I did this by making sure that I added what camera shot angles I will need to use and what is happening in each scene including speech, so I know exactly what to do with each characters in each scene and can be organised when I start filming as well and making sure that everyone is in the right place.

Title for film

Above is the title that I am going to have for Masked Man, I thought the font would be a good idea because it stands out a lot. Also the grey background links to something really bad happening in my film and it also makes the writing  lot more easy to see because before I was going to use a purple background but it didn't look right.

Soundtracks / sound effects

Below is some ideas of soundtracks that I might be using for my film, these soundtracks and sound effects have been picked appropriately and precisely for each scene. To make sure that it fits in with what is happening and gives the audience a better understanding of what is going on. I have taken these sounds from YouTube and then transferred them to an mp3.

Evidence of organisation for filming

Above is all the text messages that I have sent to my friends to see if they are available on the 17th January, so I know for sure that they are going to participate or if they can't do this day then I can change it to suit them. Fortunately from texting all my friends I have found out that they are all mostly available on that day, I will also be acting in a little bit as well. Also this shows how organised I am towards making sure I have all my actors/actresses for the film and I know for future reference that everything will be okay for when I start filming for real and it will hopefully look fine on the day.

Consent form example

Above is an example of a consent form for an actor to have, so the director can get the permission from their parents etc. to star in my film an be on YouTube. It is important to have this so you can make sure that all the actors will be present on the filming day as well.

Plan for the 5 weeks

  • 6th January - 16th January - planning and research needs to be done
  • 17th January - first part of filming for video
  • 27th January - first part of editing, if need to re-film any bits that aren't good enough then do that a couple of days after
When done all this and changed anything that may need changing, I can then start writing out my evaluation explaining how I find out all the information and why it helped me to do my film. Also I need to write out strengths and weaknesses of my work to show what I did well towards making my film and what went really bad.

Production Company image for film

Above is the name of the production company that I have decided to have for my film, I decided to have stars going around it to link to the text I have used, it also links to the word "sparkle" which links to stars sparkling at night and it stands out a lot more from any other production companies.

Feedback on script

Below I have edited scene 5 to "AN UNKNOWN DEATH" the reason why I did this is because my teacher gave me feedback on my script and she thought that the person who is dead is one of Beverly's friends. However it isn't, it is someone who she has never met before. Also I edited some other words on my script to make it sound more exciting and professional.

Script for Masked Man

Below is my script for my final film, Masked Man. I decided to do something like this because I have discovered that many people enjoy crime like dramas, so I thought it would be best if I did my own take on this drama.

Tips to help me do a good film

Above I have took a screenshot of this website, the reason why I have done this is because it gives me useful tips on how to use different shots that won't make the film boring and will also make it stand out a lot more with the different shots that get used to make a great video.

Above is another bit of information that will help me to make sure that when I am filming someone that I make sure that I am close enough so I can pick up the sound a lot better, following on from the other screenshot it is a lot better to use more different camera shots than just one. All of this information is what I am going to keep in mind to make my film really good, not boring.

Equipment List

Above is the Nikon DSLR camera that I will be using to film everything

I will be using this tripod for when there is just still filming of where the place is, for example in one bit of my film at the beginning I will be recording the atmosphere and to use an enigma code towards where everything is set and to add tension towards something bad going to happen.

I will be using this microphone to make sure that I pick out every bit of important sound that I need to make sure that it sets the atmosphere and so you can hear people a lot better when they are speaking.

I will be using the OPTEKA X-GRIP professional camera for when I film steady long , short pan shots or action sequences.

Action plan tick list #2

Film company name

I asked some people in my class for the name that they like the most and from the above I have found out that Sparkle Productions is the most popular company name to use for my film.

Audience expectations - questions

Above I chose these questions to help me with my interview below on my blog, I chose these ones to then give me some ideas of how to use the camera appropriately towards what is happening on each scene.

Audience expectations interview

Above is an interview that I did with three people to see what they expect an opening two minute film to be like and I also asked them a few questions about what might make my film stand out more. This helped a lot because I now have really good ideas on how to represent each character and to use the correct camera angles and movements to make it look the best it can.

The audience my film is going to be aimed at

My film is going to be mostly aimed at the ages 12+ the reason why this is, is because there is not going to be any swearing in my opening film and it isn't going to be too violent or scary. The idea that I have chosen to do is a crime type drama with a mysterious twist, where three kids firstly play hide and seek and are having a normal average day then something terrible happens after a while when one girl discovers the body. The reason why I chose this idea is because I can easily portray different camera movements to make it look as realistic as possible and the overall outcome will also look very professional. In addition the audience that I have aimed this at is mostly young children who can enjoy it a lot more and understand it a lot better than adults, also using this idea of a crime type scene makes it more interesting and when the kids are playing hide and seek at the beginning the audience thinks everything is okay. But because of the title this gives the audience an enigma code towards something unexpected that will happen near the end and I think the type of audience I have chosen is the right one for this type of film from the ideas that I have discussed above.

Setting and Location

Below are the key images to represent key scenes in my film:
The area that I have chosen for my filming is going to be in the woods near where I live, which is called Skinners Woods. I chose this area because it is very convenient and easy to get to, also it won't cost a lot of money to go to - I am trying to spend less amount of money as possible but get a good amount of filming out of it. In addition, I think using the woods in my opening two minute film is a good idea because then I can make my scenes more dramatic and add tension very easily from everything around me and add different moods as well to set the scene. But I need to make sure that no one is walking through the woods so then my filming doesn't go terribly wrong.

Here is a POV shot, this idea will be used to show the point of view of what the character is seeing and when each character plays hide and seek I want it to look fun and exciting and to make the audience think that nothing is going to happen. Also this scene is going to be used to show one character hiding behind a tree then another one jumping out and scaring them for a laugh. This idea is going to be used to confuse the audience into thinking that this was the bad bit that was going to happen in my film, but really it wasn't.

This image shows the area where most of the action will be taking place when the three girls play hide and seek and then unexpectedly the 'Masked Man' appears and knocks the girl over, the Man needs to wear a balaclava and also needs to wear casual clothes to make the audience guess who this man may be and why he is here in the woods. In addition because this man is unknown it adds a more better plot towards the film, but because it is only the opening scene I won't be able to make the whole film - I haven't got enough time.

This shot will be used for the beginning bit of my film to set the scene and add more of a dramatic effect towards what is going to happen next. Following on from this I will also use calm music to make the scene look like a normal average day, by doing this I will use an establishing shot to set the scene for where the area is going to be, so then the audience know where it is and understand a lot more as to why I have used this area when the characters arrive on the scene.

This final image will be used in my final film to represent the characters (I used my Dad to represent this) having a conversation towards what they want to do in the woods and they decided to do something play hide and seek because they have nothing better to do, but they don't expect the dangers that lurks in the woods of death, This scene will be near the beginning.

Setting and location for film - pictures taken

Above is all the pictures that I have taken for my setting and location, and I have narrowed them down to 7 pictures to show exactly where the main events are going to take place for my film. Also by doing this I can show clearly where everything is going to be and the reason why I chose this area.

Fonts for title of film

Below is a survey I took, asking my peers what they thought was the best font to use to go well with what will happen in my film and here is what I found out:
Above I have found out that the top font is the most popular one, I found this out from my peers and I will be using a font like this for my final film because it stands out a lot more and adds a bit of a sinister atmosphere to my film, which links great with what is going to happen in my video.

Character Profiles

Above is the characters that are going to be in my final film, I have also written down what characteristics they have to link to what happens in the film.

Survey - possible name for film

I asked all my class members what film title they liked the most, so then I have seen what the audience would find more interesting when watching my film and the title is very important to link towards what the film is going to be about.
Above my peers said that they preferred the name Masked Man, this maybe suggests that it gives an idea to the audience about what might happen in my film and that it is a very interesting name as well. However I really liked Hide and Seek but because that name has already been used for a film I couldn't use it, so instead I went for the one that my peers liked the most which was 'Masked Man'.

Warp films and Warner Bros. ideologies

Above I did some research on two different production companies Warp Films and Warner bros. to have a look and get some ideas for how they create films and I am going to use ideas from this research for my own film that I am going to create, especially from a Warp Films perspective because they had a very little budget to produce films unlike warner bros. who had a very large budget and it is a very popular company worldwide and for my short film I haven't even got a massive budget so it is not going to be as good quality as a film made by Warner Brothers, but I still need to make sure I make it look as professional as possible.

Mise-en-scene

Below is a presentation explaining the different props, clothing and anything additional that each character will need to make my film as realistic as possible and so it won't also get boring. Here is my presentation below:
